Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Bob's not DEAD...

Sorry, the "Paul is Dead" comment got me going...but, putting all the armchair analysis of Bob's condition aside (though inclined now to go with Ring-O and MC's take on his being "worn out" and such), I have a question for folks that have been going: there have been ref's to "teleprompters", and though at first this was a great shock and surprise, I've realized it must be true, but my question is, though the filming is terrible, WHERE are they?

Or more specifically, where's Bob's? From the vid's, it would appear they have to be "in the floor" (ie, judging where he's looking most of the time)...and I just didn't see anything (again, I am old, and the vid's are poor).

Anyone know? Are they like the old "front stage low-level" monitors? Hanging from the ceiling out of view?

Inquiring minds want to know...Oh, and anyone thinking this is too many posts for a retiree recall that all of this inane nonDEAD chit-chat is exactly the fluff I warned you I'd be all over having tired of droning on about the Golden Age and actually listening to shows....

The teleprompters are on the floor near their vocal mics, looking like wedge monitors. They use in-ear monitors for their audio. But looking at the videos, Bob is hanging back by the amps and drums and is looking straight down at the floor, or his feet . . . or his pants that have shrunk quite a bit in length - perhaps wondering if his legs were growing to similar lengths as his moustache . . . ? That kind of query could have thrown him off, but more likely, I can't imagine how one with dyslexia can read teleprompters on the floor with their ever-scrolling text. Either scenario, I expect, would be very confusing to one that is off his game.

Would also explain the extra bars i'm hearing in many cases between lines. Dark Star, for example.

Teleprompters? I guess it's hard to read the same when you're tripping.

Why don't they just go straight to lip syncing?

Yeah, that's what I thought when this first came out a few months ago...I am so out of the loop that I was aghast it wasn't a HUGE issue. I don't think I would want to see a band that uses them; how far down the slippery slope are we going?

Why not "Fake Furthurs" so they can play multiple shows each night in different arenas?

I don't think the teleprompters are anything new.
If I recall, they were being used in '94 and '95 while the GD were still touring.

You know, I had to make a stupid speech to feel I could just post willy nilly like this...

You are too good, BD...seriously.

When it comes time to crossing over, I am going to remember what a little entertaining gadfly you were around here and smile. Well, okay, maybe I'll have other things on my mind, but you get the idea.

Rumored on Philzone that this is how the show started last night:

Phil to Bobby into the mic for everyone to hear "Never drink out of something you haven't poured yourself." Phil then hugs Bobby.

Im guessing Bobby got dosed last night...That would explain it.

EDIT:

Sorry for the hijack WT....I can tell you that at the Buffalo show at Sheas in Feb I had 12th row and we could see the teleprompters..They were really low, maybe 2 ft off the ground. Low enough that they were hidden by the stage monitors.

Thanks SB; I figured...some folks I have seen have them so obvious, up high, right in front of their faces, but this seems like a better arrangement (ahem, it still "bothers" me, so hiding them is a good idea in my book).

Though as everyone points out, not sure anything would work well for Bob!

You're not keeping up, FB! This is ALL I do now...no more 68, no more "lets play nice, eh?", no more streaming/listening to the DEAD (CREAM kick; I have not listened to the DEAD since April...well, a few partials off the newest RTs before I shelved it, but that's it).

You all really ought to run me outta here...

[PS-thanks, always a pleasure, FB]

I don't care what it was; acid, shrooms, booze, pot, ludes, cough medicine, jet lag, diarreah (sp?), somebody kicked his dog, his dog died, ..............

THEY SHOULD REFUND THE 100K IN TICKETS.

To me I rather have them flub the lyrics Jer was great for it and Bobby had NEVER to my knowledge sang Truckin' all the way thru, we expected it and there was enough of us to fill in the blanks for the boys. They laughed at themselves too. Technology is what it is pros, you know what words are, cons, do you REALLY know what they mean?
